Baiju Bawra: Ranbir Kapoor To Join Forces With Sanjay Leela Bhansali?
While maverick filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali gears up for Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt, he has another film in the pipeline titled Baiju Bawra. Now after a series of names including that of Ranveer Singh and Hrithik Roshan speculated, the newest updates claim that Ranbir Kapoor will play the lead in the magnum opus. Read on to know more about the same.
Ranbir Kapoor, who made his debut with SLB’s 2007 film Saawariya alongside Sonam Kapoor, was in talks with the filmmaker for a collaboration. It turns out the film was none other than Baiju Bawra. It is the remake of the classic yesteryear film of the same name.
Talking about the same, a source in a Pinkvilla report said, “Ranveer and SLB were discussing to collaborate on a film, but right now that can’t happen. Bhansali will reunite with Ranbir Kapoor on this one. There are two main male leads in the film; one is of Baiju and the other of Tansen. RK will be playing Baiju’s role in the period drama. Recently, he even went to meet the filmmaker at his office where he verbally agreed to do the project. The actor’s team is now working out the modalities.”

Talking about the schedules, the source said that nothing is set yet. Considering the delay in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ganagubai Kathiawadi’s making due to the pandemic, Baiju Bawra will have to face a delay too. As for Ranbir Kapoor, the actor already has Luv Ranjan’s project and also Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s next.
“They aren’t locking his dates as of now because they need to lock the other actors for the film and if all goes well, the film will only go on floors in the second half of 2021. Bhansali will wrap up work on Gangubai first and then plan the pre-production for this. RK, on the other hand, will start shooting for Luv Ranjan’s film and then begins Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s next around early 2021,” the source added.
