I can't speak to whether or not Justin Bieber is sad, like so many of his commenters on Instagram have been suggesting since he buzzed his hair in April. But, I can confirm, from speaking directly to his hairstylist Florido (who's been cutting the pop star's strands for five years now), that Justin's shaved head isn't the result of a Britney-like breakdown — he just needed a fresh start.
"The haircut was his idea," Florido said. "He's always very adamant about doing things differently than what everyone else is doing."
"It wasn't like he went to a random salon and shaved it himself and is lashing out," Florido added.
Quick reminder: Justin had dreadlocks prior to shaving his head. They were starting to get really knotted, so before his Washington, D.C., show, Justin suggested that it was time for a haircut. "So after that show, I cut out all of the dreads using scissors," Florido said, "and then I used a buzzer to shave it all down."
Bieber originally got his dreadlocks seven weeks ago while snowboarding in Park City. "He was snowboarding and saw someone with dreads and wanted them," Florido explained. "He wore them for maybe a month and then wanted to change up his look. Not to mention his hair was bleached and was already fragile, plus it was knotted and teased from the dreads. We decided to just start fresh and shave it all off."
At this point, I think it's safe to say that Bieber changes up his hair as often as Kylie Jenner. But that's why Florido likes working with him. "What's great with him is that he is on the fly with his style," he said. "He usually says what he wants and then it evolves into different phases."
I personally think Bieber looks hot AF with his new haircut, but what did the Biebs think about his buzzed do? "It's always shocking to come from long hair to short hair, right?," Florido said. "But as soon as he walked into the hallway from the dressing room, everyone was going off about how cool it looked, because no one had ever seen him like that except for when he was a little kid. He's into it too — he looks like a young Brad Pitt. We still have the dreads though, now we might try to slang them for a charity."
As far as Bieber's next hairstyle, Florido said, "Right now he's into the short do, but it could be anything. It's always so random and never planned."
