Kanye West says Harriet Tubman 'never actually freed the slaves' during his South Carolina rally

Kanye West South Carolina rally

Kanye West held his first campaign presidential rally in North Charleston, South Carolina, and shared his thoughts on abortion, his relationship with Adidas and Gap and more. However, his most glaring statement was when he claimed abolitionist and political activist Harriet Tubman "didn't free the slaves," and "had them go work for the white people."
During one of the most surreal moments of the rally, Kanye became incredibly emotional as he revealed that wife Kim Kardashian had wanted to abort their eldest daughter North and said that they "almost killed their daughter".When a young woman took the stage to challenge Kanye on his views of abortion, Kanye maintained that he was not against abortion. Instead, he said America needs to do a better job supporting pregnant women and proposed giving every pregnant woman $1 million in order to see their pregnancy through, prompting laughters from the audience.
Kanye became increasingly emotional as he spoke about his own childhood, saying: "My Mum saved my life. My Dad wanted to abort me.

"There would have been no Kanye West. Because my Dad was too busy."

Elsewhere during his remarks, Kanye threatened to cease his relationship with adidas and Gap unless the companies put him on the board. He encouraged his followers to stop watching porn, and said, if elected, marijuana “would be legal and free.”

The atmosphere turned contentious towards the end of the event when a rally-goer challenged Kanye’s interpretation of the Bible. After allowing a few more people to speak, Kanye exited the stage to a mixture of cheers and boos.
