2014 : A review of my year

It's been a crazy year.

I am quite proud of how much I have managed to shove into this year and I think its time for my year review!

This time last year, I was living on Mansfield Road in Nottingham in constant fear. My house was repeatedly broken into and I kept coming back worried that I was going to walk into something a little dangerous. I eventually left in May after I got back from my trip and haven't looked back. I moved to a much nicer area and I never feel remotely upset about that apartment. However, while I lived there - I felt constantly under threat.

I also went to New York this year too. I finally told someone how I felt about them, travelled to New York (where they lived) and had an amazing time. I don't normally enjoy travelling alone because I get worried about everything in the universe that can go wrong. It was liberating to manage the airports and the travel by myself and I am so impressed that I did it. New York was always one of those places that I wanted to see and I did it! I'm planning another trip for my 30th next year too.

I went back on the radio in September. I auditioned to join the After Dark Djs on URN radio and was successful! I now have my show on a Tuesday night at 11pm - 1pm and I love it. I've been involved with radio in some way since 2009 and this is the first show I have had in which I do not have to play the chart music or music selected for me. It's all my music! Which is great. So the show is called, The Indie Show and I love it.

I celebrated three years with MAC this year! A fact that I cannot quite believe given how badly I wanted to join the company. I work with a fantastic group of people and I get to do freelance shoots as well. I am fortunate in that I can pick and choose what freelance I do. I normally opt to do the weirder stuff! I've done music videos, short films, zombie conventions, wrestler make ups......

My partner came to Nottingham! As a result of the successful trip to New York, my partner came to Nottingham this December which was really lovely. I got to show off my adopted city with pride. I love living here. I was able to show pubs, food, people and the city and make myself really happy. There were no complaints and the whole trip was not only really successful but great fun. Its also great having them so close to Nottingham as Ireland is not as far away from here as New York!

I passed two successful papers in to be considered for conferences this year and got both! I was due to speak at Nottingham University then at Leicester University. Then.....I got sick. I got the flu that week and was unable to go. I was gutted. I think its better to see it as a positive then a negative and celebrate the fact that my papers were successful. Also, I have a printed piece coming out in May in the Political Journal I pitched for too. All really good signs!

I've been to some really good gigs this year. I got to meet Viv Albertine (thanks john xx) from the slits, went to London to see Sharon Needles perform, went to Jurassic Five on my birthday and also Tom Vek. Not really as many as I would like but I am working on going to see Palma Violets in February as well. Here is hoping!

There is plenty more that I would like to see in 2015. I am taking some well deserved time off my PhD. I work so hard and have been working on it for 2.5 years now. I need some time off. I return in September to it. In the meantime, I am going to have some proper downtime. I need to get some relaxation in. I will be saving towards fees still but I really want to take up some hobbies and relax a little. I also want to take a few trips as well since I went the whole summer this year without a holiday and I would LOVE to go somewhere nice so I can celebrate my birthday in style! I don't turn 30 twice! I don't know what I want to do just yet. I would also like to see more of the UK this year as well. It's so cheap and easy to explore and I just haven't done it yet! I am planning on possibly Manchester with my partner in January - all going according to plan! I would also like to go to Belfast again! xxxx

I hope my readers have had a fab 2014 and are looking forward to 2015... xxxxxx
